R & D Manager - Johor, Malaysia


Position Summary

  • To oversee the strategy, development, production, testing and optimization of R&D projects, existing systems and commercial projects. Responsibilities include management of R&D, innovation, new product development, product/system improvement in cementitious and paint/coating products. The person will lead the R&D team and also have a good balance of hands-on work. This role touches a wide range of skills and bodies of knowledge and can-do attitude in the fuzzy front end. Assist HOD developing and delivering company’s R&D roadmap.


Managerial/ Supervisory Role

  • Ability to manage change and effectively pass on the process/formulation to concerned teams for execution. Understand product/project requirements, coordinate with resources and direct the projects in the right direction in a timely manner.
  • Lead the R&D function to ensure all products that leave the factory are quality assured.
  • Communicate with other departments to understand business objectives and priorities, and to collaboratively identify quality improvement initiatives.
  • Manage and direct R&D team project timelines for efficient results.


Functional Role

  • Proficient in handling the complex of paint formulation/research and development concepts, latest raw materials, and process technologies and designing techniques.
  • Understands the different process and product requirements and ability to solve problems in testing and applications.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, product development processes and ability to understand and translate market requirements into product formulation and specification.
  • Adept to handle Multitude of Raw materials, products, and formulations that are highly complex in nature.
  • Able to guide the team through the development, testing and implementation stages and review the completed work effectively.
  • Ensure knowledge creation and capturing by executing correct procedures, policies and documentation requirements across projects.
  • To maintain the SDS / TDS with recent information.
  • Maintain ISO procedures for Lab and assist HOD in the overall ISO system implementation and maintenance.


Skills and Attributes required


Academic Qualification :

  • Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree preferably in the quality control / production of construction related products/chemicals.


Professional Experience :

  • At least 5 years’ experience in construction or paint industry towards Research & Development.


Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of paints and dry mix development
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures and ISO procedures
  • Knowledge in Office 365
  • Problem solving & good communication skills
