“Global presence, local knowledge” at WAF 2015

2015 Arcaid Architectural Photographer of the Year

As with last year, the winner was chosen by the visitors themselves, from a list of 20 photographs preselected by the jury. Among the jurors was Katy Harris, Head of Communications at Foster + Partners, as well as Hufton & Crow, last year's winners. Some 200 of the over 2000 visitors, many of whom were high-ranking representatives from world-famous architecture firms from more than 60 countries, cast their voting slips (along with business cards) into the designated Sto pail.

This year's winner of the photography competition is Fernandos Guerra from Portugal, who entered a photo of a building designed by the Swiss architecture firm Richter Dahl Rocha & Associés in Ecublens, Switzerland. The photos can be viewed at the “Building Images” exhibition in London's Werkstatt from 5 February to 25 March 2016.

Cube designed by Jon Romero | Jokin Zamalloa, Ergo Studio, San Sébastian.

New this year was a small, separate booth: the young Basque architects from Ergo Studio, Jokin Zamalloa and his partner Joe Romero, created the remarkable Sto Cube over an area of just 2 x 2 m². The concept of “Global presence, local knowledge” was implemented by Ergo Studio with the use of glass panels, Verofill boards, and various plastered surfaces. The interior offered the opportunity to experience Sto's acoustic systems, while a film by the Italian designer Manu Mister delivered an insight into the Werkstatt's exhibitions to date.

Here's a set-up video of the Sto Cube on YouTube.
